Edgewood Yacht Club hosts one of the oldest continuous Beetle Cat racing fleets in existence. Since the 1930s, wooden Beetle Cat sailboats have been sailed and raced enthusiastically by EYC youth and adult sailors. EYC was one of the first member clubs of the New England Beetle Cat Boat Association, and EYC continues to compete in, and sometimes host, the annual Leo J. Telesmanick Beetle Cat Championships, the “world championship” event for the Beetle Cat class. Presently, the EYC Beetle Cat fleet numbers around 15 boats, and you will find 5 to 10 of them racing on every Wednesday night from June through September, in addition to other events like our annual Pomham Rocks Beetle Cat Circumnavigation Regatta. To learn more about the Beetle Cat, visit www.beetlecat.com, the website of Beetle, Inc., the sole manufacturer of the Beetle Cat and a broker of used Beetle Cats. Note that all Beetle Cats are wooden hulls — fiberglass replicas and fiberglassed hulls are fun boats but not class-legal or eligible for EYC Beetle Cat racing.
