Notice of Race
1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing and the rules as defined in New England Cat Boat Association Racing Rules.
1.2 This is a double handed regatta
2 BOATS
2.1 The Boats to be used in this regatta are all wooden Beetle Cat Boats that comply with the New England Cat Boat Association Racing Rules.
2.2 BORROWING A BOAT
2.2.a Some EYC Beetle Cat Boat Owners have made their boats available to be borrowed by capable female skippers for this regatta.
2.2.b Borrowers of boats must complete & hand a signed Borrow A Boat Form (see attached) to the Race Committee PRO before the skippers meeting.
2.2.c Boat Borrowers must have demonstrated familiarity & ability to sail the Beetle Cat Boat previous to handing in their regatta registration forms.
3 ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
3.1 All females who are capable of being a skipper or crew of a Beetle Cat Boat may participate in this regatta.
3.2 Eligible females may enter by completing the attached Skipper’s Participation Form and hand it to Race Committee PRO before the scheduled skippers meeting
3.4 Crew are required to be female
3.5 Crew must complete the Crew’s Participation Form and hand it to the Race Committee PRO before the scheduled skippers meeting.
3.6 The skipper & her crew will be referred to as Team in this Notice of Race and the related Sailing Instructions.
4 FEES
4.1 There is no fee to participate in this regatta
5 REGISTRATION & SCHEDULE
5.1 All required forms must be handed to the Race Committee PRO prior to the Skippers’ Meeting on the day of the Regatta.
5.2 Regatta Date: Saturday, July 18, 2026
6. SKIPPERS mEETING
6.1 The Skippers’ Meeting is scheduled to start at 9 hundred hours (9:00 am).
6.2 The Scheduled time of the Warning signal for the first race will be thirty (30) minutes after the skippers’ meeting.
7. Number of Races
7.1 Five (5) races are scheduled; One (1) completed race will constitute the regatta being completed.
7.2 Alternative to 7.1
7.2.a If there are more teams than boats available the format of this regatta will be changed at the Skippers Meeting.
7.2.b The Alternative format may be the racing will be done using a flight method or a match racing (1on1) system with a single elimination.
7.2.c If necessary, teams will be numbered by the drawing of a card from a deck of 52 playing cards provided by the chairperson of the regatta.
8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1 The sailing Instructions will be available at the Edgewood Yacht Club Bulletin Board on July 16, 2026 by 09 hundred hours (9:00 am) and on the Edgewood Yacht Club’s web page.
9 VENUE
9.1 The Racing will be held at the Edgewood Yacht Club, 3 Shaw Road, Cranston Rhode Island 02905
10 COURSES
10.1 The courses to be sailed will be bound by set marks
10.1.a A triangle or windward leeward course or some combination or configuration of the two.
10.2 The courses to be sailed will be chosen by the Race Committee's PRO and shall be selected from the courses diagrammed in the Sailing Instructions.
10.3 The race committee may change the available course with proper notice.
11. STARTING SYSTEM
11.1 Audible-Signal Racing System (Appendix U) will be used (page 150 in THE RACING RULES OF SAILING for 2025-2028 US Sailing publication.
12 SCORING
12.1 Racing will be scored following the low point total system
12.2 There will be no throw out races.
12.3 If an alternative racing format is decided to be used, the alternative scoring system will be explained at the skippers meeting.
13 RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
13.1 The All Women’s Beetle Cat Boat Regatta Race Committee will monitor Channel (to be announced at the skippers meeting) during the regatta.
13.2 The Edgewood Yacht Club launch, Jubilee, Monitors Channel 14.
13.2.a Jubilee may be hailed for emergency assistance and for a ride back in from the mooring.
14. PRIZES
14.1 The first place finishing team will have their names listed on the perpetual plaque which will be hung on the wall in the Edgewood Yacht Club.
14.2 All participants of this inaugural Regatta will receive a keeper prize.
15 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
15.1 Personal Floatation Devices (PFD) are required to be worn by all teams.
15.2 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 3, Decision to Race of the Racing Rules of Sailing.
15.3 The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
16. INSURANCE
16.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance as per the Edgewood Yacht Club marina & mooring contract.
17 Non Edgewood Yacht Club member Skippers (guests) may bring their own authentic Beetle Cat Boats to this regatta.
17.1 Non Edgewood Yacht Club member Skippers (guests) must comply with 14.1
17.2 Guests may make arrangements for bringing, launching and hauling their boats by contacting The Edgewood Yacht Club’s All Women Beetle Catboat Regatta Chairperson,

18. NOTICE of RACE
18.1. This Notice of Race will be available upon request of the regatta chairperson at email Address (billgrenga10091948@verizon.net) as well as it being posted on the EYC’s bulletin board, its web page & its weekly newsletter.
19. POST RACING SOCIAL
19.1 All competitors, Race Committee, support personnel, & spectators are welcome to enjoy
the post racing party. Free of charge.
